Misfortune Grapes

CREATED BY: KHAIRUNNISA

When I was a child, about 9 years old, I had a gang with two friends in my village. They were Nani and Mentari. We used to spend our time by going out to rice field or playing hide and seek after school. However, one day we got many bad things after stealing grapes.

It was started from this incident. We did something that we didn’t usually do. We had an exciting adventure to the next village. It was far away from my village, actually for children who were still 9 years old and had never been far from their parents. We went there on foot. Then, we arrived to a place that we had been planned before. There was a grape farmland. With my curiosity, I approached the farmland and without an excuse I picked some grapes then took it into my handbag. At the same time, my friends did the same thing as I did. Mentari asked to us, “Are we stealing this grapes?

“Mmm, as long as the farmer doesn’t know, I think it’s okay,” replied Nani. I just chuckled at that time and continued to pick the grapes.

“Enough, we have enough grapes,” I said.

“So, what will we do with these grapes?” asked Nani.

“What if we make them into juice?” suggested Mentari.

“Nice idea. Okay, let’s go home!” I responded.

In the middle of our way home, something obstructed us. We were shocked because there was a snake in front of us. Suddenly, we shrieked and ran away. Unfortunately, half of our grapes fell down and we didn’t have any sufficient time to take them back.

“Alas, now we only have half of the grapes,” Mentari felt regret.

“It is better than we are bitten by the snake, you’ve to be grateful, Nani said.

“I’m so sorry, I don’t mind” she replied.

“Okay let’s end the conversation because the sun has been disappeared,” I suggested them.

We arrived at home in the twilight and we decided not to make the juice this day but tomorrow because it has been too evening.

After the day had passed and the class had been finished, my friends came to my house. In accordance to our decision, we would make the juice today. They had been ready to make it in my house. Nani brought sugar and Mentari brought ice. I welcomed them to come to my house. In the corner of my house, my mother stood and wiped the dirty table then she took a step closer to us and asked, “Hello Nani, Mentari, come in and have a drink.

“Hello, Mam. Thank you, and actually we will make a juice in your house,” Nani said.

“Really? What do you mean?” My mother was greatly amazed.

“I mean I will make a juice with my friends from the grapes that we had, I explained.

“Umm, okay your mommy will help you to do that,

“Thanks mom.

With my pleasure dear,” she smiled.

We walked toward the kitchen. We were very excited. It was our first time to make a juice. My mom served juicer, knife, layer, and glass first. My friends also took the sugar and the ice on the table. I served water. After the tools had been served, we started to make a juice. First, we cut the grape into two parts and took outside the seeds. Second, we put the grapes into the juicer. Then, we poured the sugar to the juicer. After that, took some water and added ice into the juicer. We waited for 5 minutes until it was blended. While we were waiting for the juice, Nani pinched my hand and chuckled,Awww.

“Don’t be so serious, it almost done.

“Hmm, I can’t wait. It will be our first experience to make juice and I suppose it will be very delicious. At last, the juice had been served.

“I want the first glass of the juice!” Nani yelled.

“No, I am the first person tasting this juice. So, Mentari did. They did not stop talking and gazing at each other. Fortunately, when I was sitting on my seat, my mother gave me the juice. I was very happy because I got the first juice. So, I could taste it first than others. However, when I tasted it, there was something ridiculous with the taste. “Why? Is there something wrong with the juice? My mom asked.

“Yes, the juice is very salty. Are you wrong to put the salt not the sugar?”.

“Really? Let me try the juice, she suddenly secreted the juice and drank water.

“Ya, you’re right, but, I don’t know if the juice is salty.” Then, I walked towards the table.

“Mom, come here. You were wrong. You put the salt which is beside the sugar.

“Did I?”

“Yes you did.

“Oh, Im so sorry for this incident.

“How about our juice, mom?” Our friends a little bit regret and concern. Actually, they obviously wanted to taste the grape juice.

She was confused what she should do, so she thought for awhile. Then, she had an idea. She told us that she would give us chocolates for exchanging her fault. Shortly afterwards, she came from her room and gave us the chocolates. We felt happy although we didn’t have our juice. We spent the chocolates until the end of the bite.

I sat in front of the house and I was daydreaming while biting the chocolate. Then, I thought why my friends and I did not get the juice and also get many obstructions when we borrowed it to home. Maybe it was caused by the grapes that were not gotten by a right way. Yeah, I stole it from the farmer whom I had not excuse first. Since then, I swore that I had to be a good person and be an honest person. Also, if I wanted something that I could not reach, I might reach it in a good way because whatever we did, God always sees us and gives us response from what we ever did.
